First steps
Upload your own APK
Put a build from your computer into Holtdroid, decide who sees it and how long it stays, and launch it right away.
Why: not every build comes from CI or Slack. A debug build from your laptop or an APK someone sent you can be tested the same way, without installing it on your phone.
What happens
Section titled “What happens”- Press Upload on the Apps page.
- Drop the .apk or click to choose it. Dropping it straight onto the list of apps works too.
- Decide who can see it: everyone, or only you (admins see private builds as well).
- Leave Temporary on for a throwaway build, or untick it to keep the build.
- Write a note and, if you like, a changelog, so others know what to test.
- Press Upload. The build shows up in its app’s card, and the launch dialog opens right away.
Good to know
Section titled “Good to know”- Holtdroid reads the app’s name, package, version and icon from the APK itself, so a new build of a known app lands in that app’s card.
- Temporary builds are deleted once nobody has launched them for a while: 7 days by default, your server may use another value. Each launch restarts that clock.
- You can change the visibility, make a build permanent or delete it later from its menu in the app’s list of builds.
- The APK is installed exactly as uploaded; Holtdroid never changes it.
If it doesn’t work
Section titled “If it doesn’t work”- There is no Upload button: uploads are turned off on your server. Ask whoever runs it.
- “The file is larger than the upload limit”: the server caps the size (1 GiB by default). Ask for a higher limit or use a smaller build.
- The card says “Reading package info…”: the APK is being parsed. If it stays like that, the file may be broken or not an APK.
